Why would you want a Domain Name? - It makes your company look professional - it looks like you have your own server to 'web surfers'.
- It's really easy for customers to remember your web address.
- Your website location reads: http://www.domainname.com/.
- E-mail becomes very personal - you have unlimited email addresses under your domain name i.e. anything@domainname.com.
- You have reserved your own name on the Internet - so that no one else can get it.

If you would like to find out if the domain name you want is still available, simply use the domain search form below, or send us an e-mail and we will check it out for you...no cost! Send choice to: domain@mcn.org The only valid characters for a domain name are letters, numbers and a hyphen "-". Other special characters like the underscore "_" or an exclamation mark "!" are NOT permitted. A domain name can be up to 67 characters long - including the (.) dot + 3/4 characters used to identify the Top Level Domain (.COM, .ORG, .NET, .BIZ, or .INFO).

NOTE* The domain registration fee will be charged by MCN at the time of application. For your first year of Domain Name service you pay: $115.00 total (includes MCN's $40 setup fee and $5/month and the $15 registration fee). For each subsequent year of Domain Name service you pay: $75.00 total (includes the $5 monthly MCN fee and the $15.00 yearly registration fee). * If your domain is deactivated because of non-payment, there will be a $20 reactivation charge.
What Does MCN Do for Domain Name Service? - Set up DNS for proper functioning of web pages and email.
- Reserve the IP address for the domain name.
- Assist with changes to your domain name contacts through the registrar.
- Maintain and serve the domain name (web and email related).
- Establish up to 5 POP accounts to be used by customer as desired.
- Establish up to 25 email "addresses" for the domain and route email to particular boxes (POP3 accounts).
What's the Procedure to Acquire a New Domain Name? - Verify that Domain Name that you want to register is still available (see info above).
- Read and Sign the MCN Domain Name Contract, read and agree to the Tucows Contract
The current version of the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy may be found at http://www.icann.org/udrp/udrp-policy-24oct99.htm. - Send a request to MCN's domain department at domain@mcn.org.
- Make arrangements with MCN for the $15.00 registration pre-payment.
Be VERY precise about the information in your form. There is a $15 minimum charge to make domain name spelling or syntax changes. Incomplete applications will be returned to applicant. - After payment has been received, MUSD/MCN submits completed registration information to the Registrar, in the capacity of Technical Contact.
- MUSD/MCN will send email confirmation of your domain name registration withing 5 working days, and will bill MCN Customer account for Domain Name Setup and Hosting Fees (set forth in Domain Contract).
- MCN attaches the new Domain Name to MCN website account (see our website rates) on an MCN server (or other remote server). Customers may request 'customized' domain name e-mail POP3 accounts. (Additional MCN charges may apply).
Procedure to TRANSFER an Existing Domain Name to MCN The Current Administrative contact or "Owner" of the domain name must send e-mail to: domain@mcn.org with the information listed above for registering a New Domain Name, as a written request to Transfer the Domain Name to MCN. Incomplete applications will be returned to applicant. Transfer Information, Notification, and Billing will occur in the same manner as a New Domain Name registration, as listed above (Item 2). The process to move a domain name to MCN's servers for hosting varies from Registrar to Registrar. Please contact MCN's domain manager for assistance with this process. Procedure to Transfer Domain Name OWNERSHIP Current Administrative contact or "Owner" of the domain name must send a written request on the current organization's letterhead to: MCN Billing, PO Box 2445, Mendocino, CA 95460 with the information listed above, for registering a new domain name. Administrative contact must provide information for BOTH the current domain name owner, and the proposed new domain name owner. Incomplete applications will be returned to applicant. Normal transfer information, notification, and billing will occur in the same manner as a new domain name registration, as listed above (Item 2). However, each domain name transfer is a unique situation. If there are complications which require additional efforts by MCN to complete the transaction, the customer will be notified of the situation and given the option to continue for an additional fee, (based on $60/hour rate).
